A security service is the technical delivery unit that implements part of a software capability—an API endpoint, hosted workload, SaaS instance, integration interface, or other observable unit that security tools and logs reference. Services are security entities because evidence often arrives at the service layer first; analysts must enrich and map services to applications without collapsing the two concepts.
